Historic Context Statement Outline Available

SurveyLA's Historic Context Statement (HCS) is a narrative document that provides the framework for survey professionals to identify potential historic resources and evaluate them according to established federal, state, and local criteria for designation. The HCS outline provides an overview of the contexts and more than 200 themes and associated property types they cover. The HCS includes a broad range of topics relating to the architectural, social, and cultural history of Los Angeles, and is designed to be expanded over time to incorporate new themes and property types.

Under the direction of the OHR, historic preservation professionals, students, interns, and volunteers have been working for several years to develop the HCS narratives. As the surveys progress, these narratives are revised and refined; when completed they will be available on this website.
